Learn advanced tambour embroidery techniques with emerging artist Olivia Torma in Brisbane Australia.

Olivia is recognised as a talented emerging tambour embroidery artist in Australia. Her tambour embroidery talents have also been recognised by the prestigious British embroidery house Hand & Lock in London who have offered Olivia an internship in their atelier. Olivia is the only tambour embroidery artist in Australia that is available to teach this technique on demand at a time suitable for her students. Her classes are available to emerging and established embroidery enthusiasts, practitioners, and fashion designers.

What to Bring

To attend the class, students will need to bring their own tambour embroidery frame with silk organza, preferably cream or white fitted to the frame. Please also bring your own tambour embroidery tools and embroidery kit with beads, sequins, threads, and at least 20cm in length of the following materials:

  • novelty yarns;
  • gimp;
  • a piece of lace or lace ribbon;
  • organza ribbon in any width;
  • narrow satin ribbon in a range of widths no wider than 10mm;
  • a piece of nylon tulle (preferably fine lightweight);
  • a piece of felt;
  • and other materials you would like to explore.

Please note your tambour embroidery frame should be no larger than 40cm wide and long so it can be easily clamped to the edge of a table using a pair of quick grip clamps (Irwin clamps from Bunnings). Please also ensure it is pre-fitted with a piece of plain cream or white silk organza fabric. 

Some items you might like to bring with you are small embroidery scissors, a tape measure, hand sewing needles, general purpose sewing threads, marking pencils, tracing paper, pens, pencils, eraser, a small table lamp and desktop magnifier or glasses, embroidery tweezers, a notebook to take notes. Please note, no video recording is allowed.

  • Feather Stitch
  • Button Hole Stitch
  • A variety of embellished filling stitches using beads and sequins such as fish scale, vermicelle, loops, flat flutes, raised flutes, raised sequins
  • Applying lace and trims
  • Couching and creating embellished raised work
  • What to consider when applying each of these techniques for planning and stitching your designs.

Class Cost per Person

$370.00 inc gst

A 50% deposit is payable upfront to secure your booking.


The date is set once sufficient registrations have been received and a date has been negotiated with students and the venue. Please nominate the dates you would be available to attend the class on either a Saturday or Sunday within 2-3 months or registering your interest.


Once a booking is confirmed invoices will be emailed for the deposit and the balance payable in full before the class.
