My First Babydoll!
A Blue Lagoon Inspired Cotton Babydoll
I made this babydoll in October 2017. It was inspired by my love for the sea and sea shells.
On a visit to Tahiti a few years ago I received a bag full of cowry shell necklaces made by locals. It was a gift given to me by a friendly hotel concierge. I had no idea what to do with them until I learned tambour embroidery.
Being already strung I had no trouble unstringing a few shells and threading them onto embroidery thread. That was the start of my journey making my first tambour embroidered babydoll top!
I combined my love for colour and hand painting silk with my love for tambour and ribbon embroidery. What emerged from a rough sketch was the scene of an underwater tropical lagoon filled with clam shells and sea life. I loved making this piece.
This babydoll sold within a few weeks of its listing to a lady in Texas USA. She loves it!
