I’m thrilled to announce that I recently sold my first embroidered couture garment! This is a big deal for any aspiring artist – to sell your first artwork! It’s been a long time coming and has given me the confidence to take my work in a more focussed direction. The piece that sold is the cotton babydoll style top with a seaside inspired embroidered yoke. It’s the one displayed here in my portfolio and here in my online shop.
I really enjoyed designing and making this piece. It was an opportunity for me to just let my creative intuition flow using cowry and nassa sea shells as embroidery beads. The design features an underwater scene embellished with tambour beading, silk ribbon work and a quilted applique beaded with Swarovski crystal pearls on a background of hand painted silk organza.
The mixed media of gold and silver metallic threads, transparent ombre blue paillettes, wood and glass beads, Swarovski pearls, silk and organza ribbons and real sea shells bring the abundant underwater world to life. Above the sun drenched shallows a fisherman’s net floats on the surface with a catch of glistening oyster pearls.
Off to Texas USA she will go in January next year. That makes this sale even more exciting and special. So with this piece soon gone, I’ll soon be imaging my next embroidered piece embellished with sea shells. Look out for my ideas in my online atelier. I’ll be posting updates about it to the Behind the Seams section of my homepage.
