A Vintage Dress to Impress!
Introducing Mooshi Couture’s latest vintage couture reproduction of a 1950’s Blackmore So Easy pattern.
This dress is made in our 1940’s vintage cotton seersucker we purchased from a vintage fabric supplier in the UK.
The Blackmore pattern dates back to the 1950’s and had to be altered for a custom fitted result. If you’ve been following Mooshi Couture you’ll remember we published a post about this project a little while back and sneak previews on the Mooshi Couture Facebook page.
Given the economic restrictions that were in place during the 1940’s, textile mills were limited in the amount of cloth they could manufacture. Many fabrics were woven on a narrow loom. This piece was only 90cm wide. Luckily there was enough of it to make a dress. It is in very good condition with no flaws or damage. A lucky find indeed!
To give this fabric some support, we lined the dress with cotton voile. This has given it a beautiful drape and structure. But there’s something else hidden underneath this dress that we’ll share with you soon. Sign up to our Newsletter to see what it is!
To give this dress that extra vintage touch, we added a lovely satin ribbon and lace trim. We also gave the underskirt its own ribbon and lace trim.
The hand stitched zipper also got some special attention!
As well as the neckline and sleeve hems.
It’s been a joy making this dress.
