Floral Collar Couture on Vintage Jean Patou
As in many fashions past and present, designers have often used a wide collar as a canvas for fibre art. My love for flowers and silk ribbon embroidery inspired me to take a risk with the vintage Jean Patou jacket and use the collar as a canvas for a floral collar couture applique. This is my first attempt at embellishing a collar with the wonderful art of silk ribbon embroidery. The effect is striking, bold and unusual, but a joy to create. It goes well with this long brown skirt and belt.
Here’s the applique during construction.
The vibrant colours of the threads against the shine of the silk ribbon gives a lovely striking result. Who would have through pin striped organza ribbon would be perfect for creating unusual yet striking daisies?
This striking floral applique can be made in similar colours to wear with Mooshi’s bespoke 1960’s vintage Jean Patou jacket. This jacket is currently available in a specially selected lightweight cream wool with a herringbone weave for a limited time only. Other fabrics will become available in Mooshi’s Mercerie soon.
