The Novelty of Embroidering Sequins onto Tulle
Welcome to the first video post installation on Mooshi.com.au – “Embroidering with Sequins on Tulle“!
This one is for all the haute couture embroidery enthusiasts struggling to embroider with sequins or crochet a chain stitch with metallic thread using the Luneville hook.
In this video we show you that you’re not alone! Even the most experienced crochet embroiderer can find it difficult at times especially when you combine these two haute couture ‘fournitures’ with tulle – fine and expensive Italian couture tulle!
This is the first time Mooshi has embroidered tulle using the Crochet de Luneville technique, the one practised in the haute couture ateliers in Paris! We love this technique, but getting used to working on an open weave fabric that has some stretch and can easily tear brings on a little anxiety! The trick is – take your time and B R E A T H E! That’s why they call this technique Haute Couture!
In this short video we close in on a sequence of different sized sequins applied using a medium weight metallic thread. The Luneville hook size is 100 pointe. Each sequin is stitched un-lapped so their sizes appear in gradation from small to large to small again. Observe how each sequin is wrangled into place. For optimal HD viewing set the video quality to 720p.
This red tulle project is the first design from our upcoming beaded tulle couture collection – a small sample range of sheer halter neck tops for evening, boudoir, resort or burlesque wear… not for the prudish or modest!!!
Here are some photos of the embroidery design in progress on the frame. In the mix are vintage bugle beads and Swarovski crystal pearls.
Keeping a straight line is easy on tulle!
Very Art Deco don’t you think? Or perhaps 60’s Optical Art Pop?
We’ve sourced the most beautiful tulle from Europe just for this collection. Take a peek. Apricot, Sea Blue, Rose Mauve, Black, Blackberry, and Red!
We’ll share our design once we have it up on the mannequin.
